The Squirt B2 team defeated an outstanding team from Eastern Connecticut Hockey Organization (ECHO) for the second time in as many days to win the Championship of the Newport Youth Hockey Christmas Tournament in Newport, RI. ECHO came into the tournament as heavy favorites, but along with additional wins against solid teams from Newport, RI and Avon, CT, the Seahawks rose to the occassion with one of their best games of hte season to win an exciting 5-4 game in the qulaifying round against ECHO. As fate would have it, when the six team tournament results were sorted out, the Seahawks would once again have to put their 3-0 tournament record on the line against the ECHO squad, who handily won their other games to gain entry to the finals and a rematch for the tournament title. Backed by strategy and energy gained in endless knee hockey games and swimming pool exercise, the Seahawks kids were up to the challenge, playing spectacular defensive hockey and creating and capitalizing on the scoring chances needed to take home the Gold Medals. The coaching staff, parents, grandparents, siblings and friends on hand could not have been prouder of the level of play at which the kids performed, as well as how well they represented the Seahawks program on and off the ice.
